This is a view looking upstream along the north fork of the Toutle River. The Toutle river flows out of Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, through the Gifford Pinchot National Forest and empties into the Columbia River. The grey in the riverbed is ash deposited during flooding resulting from the 1980 eruption and later erosion of ash further upstream.
